Moab is one of my favorite road trips from Denver – the drive is only 5 hours and the hiking, biking & off-roading trails are seemingly endless. However, with the National Parks it can be a little tough to find a way to find hikes that are dog friendly but it’s possible! The pet policies inside Arches National Park and Canyonlands are very limited but there are still plenty of ways to explore the trails with your pup and still get the gorgeous views.
One thing to note, it gets HOT in Moab in the summer months. Please make sure you’re taking care of your pup. Discover Moab has all the info on heat safety and emergency vets in the area.

We brought home Brewster about a month ago and we’re really prioritizing getting him used to travel early. Moab was one of the first places I wanted to bring him. It was his first big road trip, first hiking trip, and even had his first swim while in Moab, Utah!
Brewster is about 5 months (we think) so we got the go-ahead from the vet before starting on trails. We took things slow and he got carried a few times over any steep parts or when he needed a break.
Where to Stay
We’re huge fans of Gravity Haus so I was really excited to see they had a new property in Moab that opened last fall. I love that each location leans into their corner of the outdoor world – art featuring all of Utah’s stunning rock formations covered the walls. My favorite part of our room was the bike-rack wall featuring a built in can opener! Plus, Gravity Haus is so dog-friendly. They have a dog bowl next to the human’s welcome water as you’re checking in. Every member of the staff stopped to say hi to Brewster and give him love.
The highlight of Gravity Haus Moab is absolutely the pool and hot tub area!
Camping
Camping in Moab is a bit of a free-for-all when it comes to the BLM sites, one trip I spent four hours driving around looking for an open site. Other times I’ve been lucky and snagged a spot early. My favorite campsite I’ve stayed at is Gold Bar Campground which is just below the Corona Arch Trailhead. This campground was right on the river and we spent both nights sitting on the rocks watching the sun go down behind the red rocks.
