Wildflowers start to bloom in May and June for lower evelations, but peak in July/August for most mountain trails.
This is a very busy time in the mountains in Colorado so go on weekdays and early to avoid crowds, practice Trail Etiquette and Leave No Trace. Let’s keep our trails in great shape! If you’re new to hiking start here before you hit the trails for the first time.
*Do not pick any wildflowers*
It may seem obvious, but do not pick any wildflowers as you’re hiking. In fact, there’s even a 100 year law protecting Colorado’s wildflowers. Also, avoid walking through them, letting your dog run through fields of flowers. Stay on trail so everyone can continue to enjoy!

Such a beautiful loop around the lake with a waterfall and beautiful wildflowers. If you go counter-clockwise you’ll hit the best of the flowers off the bat.

Not So Approachable & Dog-Friendly
This trail is such a gem for summer wildflowers & fall colors! An hour and a half from Denver and just north of Silverthorne. Most of the gorgeous wildflowers are at the start of the trail for Acorn Creek Out & Back or even just off the parking lot if you want a quick photo without the hike.
*This is the correct trail, there is a social trail that has been an issue in the past. Make sure you follow the correct path.

Can’t mention wildflowers without going to the Wildflower Capital of Colorado: Crested Butte. Peaking in mid to late July it absolutely deserves the title. Camping can be touch to find, so check out my favorite spot for last minute camping at Campfire Ranch on the Taylor.

Lavenders and yellows surround one of Colorado’s most iconic sites mid to late July. You do need a reservation for the shuttle – book in advance it sells out!

Three lakes, wildflowers and usually a few moose – just a few of the seasons this is one of my all-time favorites.

Up a ski hill, winding through Aspen trees – Berry Picker Trail is steep and difficult at times but totally worth it for the views. Plus, you can take the gondola down for free if you don’t want to hike back down!

Mount Falcon Park is such a gem and it’s only 35 minutes from downtown Denver, right near Indian Hills. There are lots of hiking options through the park, but taking Castle Trail to Meadow Trail is a perfect loop for beginners, families or just a quick easy hike!

One of my favorite trails overlooking Lake Dillon! I hiked this during peak wildflower season, but took note of all the Aspens to come back and hike in the fall. The golden Aspens with the lake in the background make it a can’t miss.
