I haven’t spent much time in Larkspur, so I’m so glad a 9News viewer recommended I check out Spruce Mountain! It’s about 45 minutes south of the city and is definitely much less busy than most of the trails I’ve been on lately.
Spruce Mountain Trail offers gorgeous views, low elevation gain and surprisingly a decent amount of shade! When you’re driving out to the trailhead there’s a lot of flat land, then you see the limestone buttes scattered amongst farmland.
The climb to the top is only 600ft so it’s relatively easy on the lungs, especially starting at about 7,000 ft. Once you’re on top you get to wander with a couple miles of level trails around Spruce Mountain with steep cliffs and views of the Front Range & Pikes Peak.
This is definitely a good one for out of town visitors or if you’re looking to get out of the Denver metro area.
