Fremont Peak was the highlight our hiking at Royal Gorge! This trail is fairly easy until the last quick, steep push to the peak. To make this hike around 3 miles leave from the East Ridge Trailhead (parking at the Royal Gorge Park East Ridge Campground) but we decided to start at the Canyon Rim Trailhead starting on the Canyon Rim Trail to make it 8 miles round trip. Any way you do this hike – it’s worth it!
Winding along the top of the east side of the Royal Gorge, you get sweeping views of both the canyon below and Cañon City in the distance. You can see the Royal Gorge Train nearly 1,000 feet below winding along the Arkansas River.
This trail was fairly exposed and sunny so bring lots of sunscreen and water. We barely saw anyone else on the path so that was an added bonus!
