The hike to Crater Lake starts at one of the most iconic views in Colorado: Maroon Bells viewpoint at Maroon Lake. From there follow the lake around to the right and you’ll see the trailhead. Then it’s 1.4 miles of stead incline through Aspen Groves before you make it to the lake. The first time I did this hike we watched a young moose play and swim in the lake for 45 minutes.

A few things to know:

  • You need a shuttle reservation or a parking permit – Plan ahead these go very quickly for the weekend spots!
  • Bring bug spray
  • Dogs are allowed on leash and on the shuttle

Gear Review: 2024 Nemo Launch

I bought the NEMO Stargazer back when everyone was spending money on tie-dye sweat suits during 2019, before I even had one solo camping trip under my belt, much less a tent, a bag or any other camping essentials. What I did know was that whoever said that ‘money...
