What an amazing hike to a gorgeous turquoise lake right on top of Red Mountain Pass near Silverton, Colorado. There are a few ways to go about this hike:

  1. Take the 4WD trail up to the trailhead (about 3 miles from the Million Dollar Highway) and then hike the last half mile up to the lake itself. Total hiking distance would be about a mile.
  2. Hike up the road from the Million Dollar Highway (this is what pops up in AllTrails) for a grand total is 7 miles and 1,800 ft of elevation gain
  3. Hike from Campfire Ranch at Red Mountain Pass if you’re staying (which you absolutely should, here’s my full breakdown) and then it’s 5 miles round trip

The views on this hike are next level. The entire way up you have sweeping views of the San Juans and Million Dollar Highway. The lake itself is pristine and a stunning color of blue. We hung out at the top with no one else around and it was incredible!
